About Amor Mio Alpacas

I was a stay-at-home Mom for 19 yrs., enjoying every moment of my children’s lives, from actively participating in their schools to encouraging and supporting them in their activities. Once my baby left home and I ended up divorcing, I was at a crossroads trying to figure out where the next chapter in my life was going. I missed being active and making a difference in someone’s life, so I found an organization called Guide Dogs of America, and I became a puppy raiser for them.

Raising a puppy to be obedient and well socialized so he/she could be of great use to a visually impaired individual became my new way of life. Meeting new people through the organization and through the various functions I had to take my puppy to gave me the hope that someday I would be able to make a difference in someone’s life as well as heal my painful loss. My first two dogs did not complete the program due to medical issues, but my third dog has been placed in the breeding program in hopes that she will increase her solid, healthy line for a future guide dog or therapy candidate.

It was through one of these social functions that I met an individual who told me about the alpaca lifestyle. Curious, I visited a farm, and I immediately fell in love with the alpacas. Learning of all the benefits of alpaca ranching and the ability to run a small business, I was sold and purchased my first alpaca. I had always dreamed of owning a ranch with a variety of critters but living in the suburbs, this dream was put on the back burner. When I purchased my first alpaca, this started the ball rolling on obtaining a few acres of land so I could increase my herd. After a couple of years of looking for something suitable (thank you, COVID, for putting the brakes on my search), I now have a place to bring my animals home to.

My hopes now are to increase my herd, sell enough products to maintain my herd, and to open my ranch to all who would like to experience the serenity that’s part of the alpaca lifestyle. During these two and a half years, I have also opened my home to foster children. Having the ability to bring these children to an alpaca ranch has also been greatly beneficial to them, bringing them joy and some peace into their upturned lives. The soulful, and emotional healing opportunities these animals bring is beyond any words for many.

I am very grateful for all I have been able to accomplish these last six years with my animals and am looking forward to many, many more years of joy with all those I have and those that I will attain in the future.
